Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is located near the Birth
Place. Its close proximity offers comfort to moms who have had
high-risk pregnancies or whose babies have been born with conditions
that threaten their health. NICU physicians and nurses are highly skilled and training in
caring for acutely ill babies. Patient conditions most often treated
in the NICU include respiratory distress; congenital problems including
congenital heart, gastrointestinal and neurological defects; and
infection.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to spend time in the NICU with
their babies. Staff members will provide individualized attention
so parents learn how to care for their babies and prepare to take
them home. The "rooming in" program allows parents to
stay in the hospital overnight.
