The Sacred Heart Women’s Health Center recognizes that breast
milk is the gold standard for infant feeding. Breastfed children
receive optimal nutrition for lifelong health while being nurtured
in a special closeness. Our nurses are committed to supporting
your breastfeeding needs while in the hospital and once you’ve
returned home.
Breastfeeding support in the hospital
Whether you are staying at the Birth Place for the delivery of
your baby, are a new mom hospitalized on another care unit or have
a baby who is hospitalized, the Women’s Health Center’s
lactation specialists are available to help you and your baby.
They are experienced registered nurses and certified lactation
educators/consultants and can provide help with:
- comfortable positioning
- correct attachment
- what is normal and what to expect
- common breastfeeding challenges
Breastfeeding support at home
Once you have returned home, you can count on us for the following
lactation services:
- telephone follow-up
- personal consultation by appointment
- breastfeeding supplies such as pillows and breast
milk storage bags
- breast pump rental station
- free baby weight checks (no appointment necessary!)
Personal Consultation
A nurse will call you after you go home with your new baby and
guide you through your early days with practical advice. Additional
help with breastfeeding is available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m - 4:30
p.m. (except holidays) if you are having difficulties breastfeeding
at home. Fees for this service may be paid in part or in full by
insurance. We can help you with:
- sore nipples
- pumping needs
- latch difficulties
- babies with special needs
- engorgement
Precious Journey Depot
Whether you need to pump several times a day or just on occasion,
we’ll help you find a pump suited to your needs. When it
comes to breastfeeding, we have many of the accessories you may
want.
