Medications for Prevention of Rejection
Immunosuppressant drugs are taken to prevent rejection of the transplanted kidney. The transplant nephrologist selects a specific combination of medications (usually 3) to be taken by the transplant patient for the life of the transplant. These medications will be taken once or twice daily.

PREDNISONE
RAPAMUNE (SIROLIMUS)
CELLCEPT (MYCOPHENOLATE)
GENGRAF® OR NEORAL ® (CYCLOSPORINE MODIFIED)
PROGRAF® OR FK-506

Medications for Prevention of Infection
Anti-infective medications are taken to prevent infections that can occur after transplant. These medications are taken for approximately 3 months following transplant. This is the time transplant patients are at the highest risk of acquiring an infection. These medications will be taken to prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal/yeast infections.

ACYCLOVIR (ZOVIRAX®)
GANCICLOVIR (CYTOVENE®)
VALCYTE® (VALGANCICLOVIR)
SEPTRA® (SULFAMETHOXAZOLE/TRIMETHOPRIM)
CLOTRIMAZOLE (MYCELEX®)
