Sacred
Heart's Psychiatric Center for Children and Adolescents (PCCA) treats
children and youth with social/behavioral problems, and in addition,
offers assistance to parents.
As
if parenting isn't difficult enough, raising children who are "strong
willed" or "out of control" has added challenges
- sometimes, challenges that parents can't handle alone. That's
why The Parent Project is being offered at Sacred Heart as well
as in other communities across the nation.
The
Parent Project is a 12-week educational/support group for parents
of youth with destructive behaviors, those who are extremely strong-willed
and stubborn, and whose behavior has caused problems at school and/or
with the law. The program recognizes the crucial role parents play
in changing the behavior of their children and attempts to meet
the individual needs of the family.
Created
in 1988, Parent Project uses a culturally sensitive curriculum based
on years of research. It has been used nationwide and has a successful
record.
