Advanced Care Unit

The Advanced Care Unit for cardiac patients is located on the 6th floor of Sacred Heart Medical Center and is divided into two sections. There are a total of 72 beds, used for patients recovering from heart surgeries, waiting for heart (or heart-lung) transplants, and being treated for a number of complications such as heart attack.

Central nurses' stations with cardiac monitoring systems ensure that each patient's condition is watched, around the clock. A staff of registered nurses, cardiac rehabilitation nurses, technicians and a number of other specially trained professionals helps patients increase their activity and tolerance levels, understand procedures and prepare for care at home.

Special Services - Working together with the Cardiology Department and the Transplant and Mechanical Heart Program, the Advanced Care Unit offers the following services:

  • Cardiac Telemetry
  • Electrophysiology service
  • Cardioversion/defibrillation
  • Thoracic transplant services
  • Mechanical assist device care
